Did You Know Social Security Can Do These 8 Things for You?

Expedited disability claims

It takes the Social Security Administration about four months on average to process all the claims for disability benefits. That’s just the initial application because, in reality, it can take many more months, even years, to completely appeal a claim that was initially denied.

Waits like that can be particularly hard for people with severe or worsening illnesses. That’s exactly why the Social Security Administration decided to create the Compassionate Allowances program, a list of over 250 serious medical conditions that, by definition, meet the needed Social Security standards for disability.

Moreover, applications for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) involve all the conditions that are instantly flagged for fast-tracking and can also be approved in a couple of days.

If you live within 20 miles of any large city there are many food banks that can be found online. As well, if you do not, then many churches give away food once a month to those in need. You can find these online or even using your smartphone, if you have one. Simply enter into the query “local food banks” or “churches giving away food monthly”.
As for utilities, the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, again online can be found that offer help.
Also, if you are in relatively good health, you can hire yourself out as a companion for other elderly people living alone by placing an ad online or in a local newspaper. Many families are looking for mature trustworthy people that may assist and be a companion to their elderly parent or grandparent that lives alone. You will need some references from friends or past employers or former co-workers that can vouch for your character, however.
