Benefits of grandchildren

Almost 3 million children in the United States are raised by a grandparent or grandparents, as a recent study published in the September 2020 issue of “Pediatrics” shows. Most of them may even be eligible for Social Security benefits on the basis of such a relationship.

As a general rule, if you’re providing a minimum of half of a minor grandchild’s financial support and the natural parents are deceased, disabled, or simply unable to constantly contribute to that support, the child could collect survivor benefits when you retire, become disabled, or even pass away.

If you are already on Social Security when a grandchild comes into your care, you need to legally adopt the child for him and receive the benefits on your record.

    1. If you live within 20 miles of any large city there are many food banks that can be found online. As well, if you do not, then many churches give away food once a month to those in need. You can find these online or even using your smartphone, if you have one. Simply enter into the query “local food banks” or “churches giving away food monthly”.
As for utilities, the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, again online can be found that offer help.
Also, if you are in relatively good health, you can hire yourself out as a companion for other elderly people living alone by placing an ad online or in a local newspaper. Many families are looking for mature trustworthy people that may assist and be a companion to their elderly parent or grandparent that lives alone. You will need some references from friends or past employers or former co-workers that can vouch for your character, however.

  8. A Stimulus check is the weapon/tool that the wealthy uses to keep you hopeful, like a fish hoping that the bait he pursues will prove to be a great meal! there’s no stimulus check for anyone! The wealthy loves to keep you hopeful. Thats how they kept slaves in the cotton fields… with the Hope of something better! No Stimulus Checks! it’s embarrasing to hear people; especially Black Cultured people, talking about them! Also, that’s why the White Culture (Republicons) enjoy putting “Work Requirements” on everything that you’re entitled to! Like SNAP, Food share, healthcare; and other benefits that they won’t even release the informatiion to you about!
    ‘Nuff said.

  9. The republicans are nothing but liers , thieves and selfish people, there a POS ,MF . Are you taking all your wealth to the grave with you is it worth being greedy, do you all feel good about it and do you like doing it. All greedy people have to answer to the one and only All mighty God.

  10. I haven’t been able to find real help for seniors in need . Home repairs, security etc. There are lots of false advertisements .

  11. Republicans didn’t do anything to you. Democrats raided the SS account years ago and never repaid what they took.

  12. How ’bouts a little ‘whine’ with your cheese (before somebody moves it!). Democrats, Republicans, Independents, the Left, the Right; WHATEVER. Why can’t we just be Americans and be ‘done with it’? Do On to Others (regardless of Race, Creed – which I DON’T even KNOW what THAT is(?), or Color). That way you honor our Almighty GOD and the World is a much friendlier place for ‘ALL of US’ to live, Work. Play – THEN DIE!!! Just Sayin
