How can you look younger with the clothes you already have?
“I wanna be forever young,” that famous song by Alphaville goes by. While this ain’t exactly possible from a genetic point of view, we can still do some stuff to improve our looks and keep ourselves young inside and out. One of the major changes you can make is to find suitable clothes that not only look great on you but also make you look younger. Sounds like a dream come true?
If you’re not exactly willing to spend an arm and a leg to renew your wardrobe, keep reading to find some clothes tricks that can transform you from a regular to the most stylish person in the world.

1. Don’t shy away from colors
If you want to look younger, never be afraid to use patterns and colors because vibrant hues like red, yellow, light blue, or, why not, pink, may give you a more fresh appearance. Opt for light-colored shirts that match nicely with some big accessories, like a belt or a necklace.
Polka dots, stripes, and flowers may be fashionable and fun. Finding patterns that go well with your frame is the key.
2. Stay away from “matchy-matchy” clothes
There was a time back in the day when everybody was tempted to match everything in their outfits. Let’s erase this from our minds and resist the urge to match everything just to “look sharp.” Alternatively, consider wearing a mom-jean or fit, slim, or white top with a vibrant skirt or a vivid flowery top with a pair of jeans.
The same rules apply to accessories. If you wear, let’s say, a blue T-shirt, why don’t you go for some orange earrings or an orange tie? If bold accessories aren’t your cup of tea, go for simple gold or silver accessories. These may seem like small changes, but they definitely make you look younger and more confident as well.
3. The length of your skirt matters!
No matter how gorgeous your legs are, beyond a certain point in your life, your skirt should be at or below the knee. It appears more fitting and doesn’t give the impression that you’re striving to look younger.
4. Always buy bras that are your size
Even if they won’t be seen by others, they will improve the way your clothes look on your body. It’s probably time for a new bra if you haven’t acquired one recently. Pregnancy, age, and/or weight variations can cause changes in your cup size and breast shape. To ensure that your size hasn’t been modified, have your breasts measured every few years.
If you want to look younger and wear fitted tops, having different shapes and styles for your bra is mandatory. According to your size, you can wear push-up bras, underwire bras, or even strapless bras, but also comfortable ones.
5. Wear your style
This is probably the number-one golden rule for everybody, woman or man. Staying loyal to your style is mandatory if you want to look younger and more comfortable in your own skin. Wear what gives you confidence, whether you’ve always admired traditional styles or have a thing for bold patterns. Adopt trends to fit your tastes rather than running away from them.
6. Buy only high-quality clothes
Most of the clothes that are available in stores nowadays are fast fashion and made of polyester or other non-qualitative materials. Investing in long-lasting outfits is crucial as you age. Seek out well-made clothing using premium materials. Choose timeless, classic clothing that you can wear for the next five years or more.
Try them out in shops if you can, and stay away from online purchases. It’s safer and more convenient to shop in person. You can feel the products before purchasing and easily find alternatives if needed.

7. Roll your shirt’s sleeves
This is another small detail that can make a difference in your outfit. Whenever you’re trying to look younger and keep up with the trends, this is one of the best tricks that can soon become your favorite. Rolling or pushing up your sleeves, along with opening the collar and a small front tuck, works perfectly. It can completely transform your appearance, making you appear casual, laid-back, and—most importantly—comfortable.
Unfortunately, it’s cold outside, and you can’t opt for rolling the sleeves. No problem. Put on a sweater, and cuff the sleeves of your button-down shirt over the sleeves of the sweater. It’s going to look so nice!
8. Highlight the body parts you’re most proud of
A lot of people, especially women, aren’t exactly proud of certain areas of their bodies. But that doesn’t mean you have to wear baggy clothes and bland colors. You’re probably proud of certain areas of your body too. So why don’t you focus on them the most?
Look younger and feel more confident by highlighting your legs by wearing heels or your arms by wearing more light T-shirts. You don’t like your lower belly? For an elegant look, draw attention to your chest and shoulders by wearing a statement necklace or a top with a shoulder-bearing design.
9. Versatile shoes
A pair of shoes that go well with almost every type of outfit is pure bliss for everybody, not just seniors who want to look younger! If you’re a woman, go for something comfortable, if possible, with no big heels, and if you’re a man, opt for shoes that go well with both jeans and regular pants. Match them with a nice shirt, and you’re good to go!
10. Simplicity is the key
Having a full wardrobe with clothes you barely wear anymore can be a huge setback in finding your style and being comfortable with it. Sort them out, put aside everything you like and still want to use, and have the others donate them or even sell them on eBay!
Select a select few essential things that you can simply mix and match and feel at ease wearing. Choose blouses or shirts that fit comfortably, jeans, and a jacket or cardigan. As I previously mentioned, since your body is going to go through a lot of changes after a certain age, it’s important to wear clothes that accentuate your evolving physique.
11. Comfort above everything else
As an older adult, always put comfort first when you go shopping for clothes. Avoid wearing clothing that is too tight or restricting, and instead go for natural, soft fibers like linen and cotton. You should be able to move freely in your clothing, so avoid forcing yourself into anything simply because it’s in style. You won’t look younger if you force yourself to fit into a super-tight dress or jeans.
Bottom line:
If you’re 45 or older, then you’re probably aware of your style and know what you like. Even so, if you want to look younger, nobody is stopping you. Dare to try different outfits, patterns, or even colors. Being older doesn’t mean you have to wear black all the time to look slimmer or more classy. Add a splash of color, a bold pair of shoes, or even a fancy bag to give you the glow you need!
Remember, the sky is the limit!
