New Mexico

Scenic landscapes, balloon festivals, and rich culture—you can find all of them here in New Mexico. This makes this state a popular destination for seniors who want to relocate, but is this a good idea?

Unfortunately not really, because the healthcare landscape is not the brightest. At this point, New Mexico struggles with a healthcare workforce shortage. The stats say that since 2024, this state required nearly 10,000 additional healthcare workers just to meet the standards.

The result of this crisis made healthcare services inaccessible for some people, and this is not good news for seniors who want to stay healthy. For example, if you live in a rural area, you will have to travel great distances until you have access to the nearest hospital.

Furthermore, some economic limitations make being healthy a real challenge. New Mexico has some high poverty rates, especially among seniors, and this makes it incredibly difficult to get access to proper healthcare services. When insurance coverage is inadequate, it is easy to see how people are unable to go to the doctor when they need it.

This combination of unfortunate factors makes New Mexico one of the worst places to be as a senior who wants to live a healthy life.
